A Patio That Handles Weather, Wear, and Everyday Life

Wood decks look great when they are new, but they warp, splinter, fade, and rot over time. Pavers shift and settle, and the weeds growing between them never seem to stop. Concrete is different. A well-built concrete patio stays flat, stays clean, and stays solid for decades with very little upkeep on your end.

We design and pour concrete patios for homeowners all across Laredo and the surrounding area. We can build a basic broom-finished slab for a simple, clean look, or we can add texture, color, and pattern with stamped or decorative finishes. Either way, you get a surface that is safe to walk on, easy to clean, and ready for furniture, grills, firepits, or whatever you plan to put on it.

If you are also thinking about updating your driveway or front walkway, take a look at our concrete driveways and sidewalks and walkways services. We can often coordinate multiple projects on the same visit to save you time and money.

What Kind of Patio Do You Want?

Concrete gives you a lot of flexibility. Here are the main finish options we offer, along with what each one is best suited for.

  • Broom finish: The most common and cost-effective finish. A slightly textured surface that gives good grip underfoot and handles heavy foot traffic well. Great for functional patios.
  • Exposed aggregate: The top layer of cement paste is washed away to reveal the stone and pebble aggregate below. This gives a natural, rustic look and excellent slip resistance.
  • Stamped concrete: Patterns and textures are pressed into the wet concrete to mimic brick, flagstone, wood, or tile. Great if you want a high-end look without the high-end price tag.
  • Stained or colored concrete: Acid stains, water-based stains, or integral color can transform a plain gray slab into something that matches your home. Colors range from natural earth tones to bold accents.
  • Salt finish: Rock salt is pressed into the surface and then washed out, leaving a pitted texture. Attractive, affordable, and provides good traction in wet conditions.
  • Smooth trowel finish: A polished, flat surface that looks sleek and modern. Best suited for covered patios since smooth concrete can be slippery when wet.

Why Concrete Beats Wood and Pavers for Most Backyards

You have options when it comes to outdoor surfaces. Here is how concrete stacks up against the two most common alternatives.

Concrete vs. Wood Deck

  • Concrete does not rot, warp, or splinter
  • No staining, sealing, or board replacement needed
  • Better fire resistance in dry South Texas summers
  • Lower long-term maintenance costs

Concrete vs. Pavers

  • Concrete will not shift or settle over time
  • No weeds growing in the joints
  • Easier to keep clean and level
  • Usually lower cost per square foot

Concrete is not perfect for every situation, and we will always tell you honestly if another material might work better for your specific project. But for most residential patios in Laredo, concrete is the clear winner for value, durability, and low maintenance. Ready to get a quote? Visit our home page to reach out, or just give us a call.

Common Questions About Concrete Patios

How thick should a concrete patio be?
Most residential concrete patios are poured at 4 inches thick, which is sufficient for foot traffic, patio furniture, grills, and standard outdoor use. If you plan to park a vehicle on the patio, store heavy equipment, or add a hot tub, we recommend going to 5 or 6 inches with added reinforcement. Thicker slabs cost more but are significantly more resistant to cracking under concentrated loads. We will recommend the right thickness based on your plans for the space.
How long does a concrete patio installation take?
For most standard patio projects, the actual pour and finishing takes one day. Site preparation, including excavation and base work, usually adds another half day to a full day depending on what we are working with. After the pour, the concrete needs to cure for at least 7 days before light foot traffic, and we ask that you keep heavy furniture off it for a full 28 days. So from start to finish, your backyard is typically back to normal in about a week to ten days.
Does a concrete patio add value to my home?
Yes. A clean, well-built concrete patio improves curb appeal and makes your outdoor space more functional, both of which buyers pay attention to. While return on investment varies depending on the local market and the project, outdoor living improvements are consistently ranked among the better home improvement investments. A stamped or decorative patio tends to add more perceived value than a plain broom-finish slab, so if you are planning to sell your home in the next few years, it may be worth the extra cost for a more finished look.
